Semiotics is the study of signs

Its origin is from the Greek word semeiotikos “interpreter of signs” (Greek word).

This can be used in all aspects of life, gestures, facial expressions, literature, music, advertising, clothes, film and TV.

Connotation (representation) – Heart; Love, Partner, Romance, Roses, etc.

Denotation (factual or real) – Heart; muscle, pumps blood, an organ, part of your body.

Visual Semiotics

  1. The study of meaning – making through symbolisms and metaphors in images.
  2. The perception of understanding of visual codes.
